Thursday Murder Club book 6: release date and what we know

No UK title or publication date announced. Last checked . The next Coopers Chase mystery is one to look forward to.

Auf Deutsch: Der Donnerstagsmordclub Band 6

What Penguin has said

Richard Osman’s UK publisher says there are more books to come in both of his crime series. That is good news for readers who want another visit to Coopers Chase alongside the international adventures of Steve, Amy and Rosie. Penguin’s Thursday Murder Club series listing currently covers the five published novels. It does not give book six a title, cover, ISBN or UK publication date. The latest published club book remains The Impossible Fortune.

A sixth novel is therefore a future instalment, not a book you have missed in the reading order. A new paperback, audiobook edition or film tie-in of an earlier title is also a different format of an existing story. When choosing your next read, check both the title and the series number: that avoids confusing a fresh edition with a fresh case.

How many Thursday Murder Club books will there be?

Richard Osman’s publisher says more books are coming in both series. We could not verify a fixed final number of Thursday Murder Club novels in the sources checked on 11 October 2026. Five are published; book six has no announced title or release date. More books promised does not mean a fixed-length series has been announced.

What the literary agency has said

Mushens Entertainment’s US publishing announcement, dated 6 December on the agency page, names Pamela Dorman Books as the US publisher for the second We Solve Murders novel and the sixth Thursday Murder Club novel. Earlier US rights reports suggested 2026 for book six. Since We Chase Shadows was published first in September 2026, a 2027 release for book six now looks likely, but no title or release date has been confirmed. The earlier rights schedule should not be treated as a current publication announcement.

The second We Solve Murders book is now We Chase Shadows, published in the UK on 10 September 2026. The two series have separate casts and reading orders. If you are keeping track of both, our Richard Osman next-book hub brings together this sixth-book page, the third We Solve Murders novel and the stage adaptation.

The previous UK release pattern — not a prediction

All five club novels first appeared in September in the UK. The opening four arrived in consecutive years, followed by a two-year interval before book five. Here are the original UK story-release dates, with Penguin edition records linked for each. Later paperback dates should not be used to measure the gap between new novels.

  1. The Thursday Murder Club: 3 September 2020 — Penguin edition record.
  2. The Man Who Died Twice: 16 September 2021 — Penguin edition record.
  3. The Bullet That Missed: 15 September 2022 — Penguin edition record.
  4. The Last Devil to Die: 14 September 2023 — Penguin edition record.
  5. The Impossible Fortune: 25 September 2025 — Penguin edition record.

The first book established September as the series’ launch month. The second, third and fourth repeated that autumn rhythm, although their exact dates differed. The fifth continued the September pattern after the longer gap. Those are observations about books already published, not a promise that the next one must follow the same month or interval. A 2027 release now looks likely, but remains unconfirmed; the earlier calendar cannot establish a year or season.

Where book five leaves our reading journey

A spoiler-light refresher begins with the personal lives surrounding the case. The Impossible Fortune brings a wedding, a threatened guest and an uncrackable code into the club’s world. Joyce has wedding arrangements on her mind, Elizabeth is grieving, Ron is dealing with family difficulties and Ibrahim’s psychiatric work remains part of his life. Those are the book’s opening circumstances, described in Penguin’s synopsis; the culprit, the code’s solution and the outcome of the danger stay inside the novel.

For the next instalment, the useful thing to carry forward is the quartet’s accumulated history. Five investigations have made their friendships, police allies and family ties part of the pleasure of returning. Their professional experience still differs: Elizabeth’s intelligence background, Joyce’s nursing, Ron’s organising and Ibrahim’s psychiatry give them distinct ways of understanding a problem. Book six has no published synopsis yet, so the fifth book’s wedding and code should not be mistaken for an announced sixth-book storyline.

What to read while you wait

Start with the complete reading order if you have a gap in the five club novels. Reading sequentially keeps the family stories and friendships in step, even though each murder investigation has its own puzzle. If you are up to date, We Solve Murders introduces a fresh trio, followed by We Chase Shadows. For a different kind of return to Coopers Chase, explore the forthcoming stage play or the Netflix film guide. Our news page and next-book hub keep these projects together.
