What is used and why

This site runs no analytics and sets no analytics or advertising cookies, so it has no cookie banner. Browser storage holds your chosen reader settings, shelf progress and rankings on your own device; you can clear that storage in your browser. We cannot access those entries.

If you email us, your message and address are used to respond and handle the request. Hosting providers may process IP addresses and connection logs to deliver and secure the site. Our lawful basis for responding to correspondence and maintaining site security is legitimate interests in operating a useful, secure reader guide, subject to your rights and interests.

How long information is kept

Browser storage remains until you clear it. Email correspondence is kept while a request is handled and, where necessary, for a reasonable period to follow up or meet legal obligations. Hosting logs are retained under the hosting provider’s policies; ask us for information about a specific request.

Other services

Following a link to Audible, Waterstones, Booking.com, CJ or Netflix takes you to that service, which applies its own privacy terms. Hosting providers process the technical information needed to serve and protect the site. This site does not receive your retailer account, purchase or membership details.

Optional book 6 email updates

If an email sign-up form is available and you choose to subscribe, your email address and consent marker go directly to Buttondown, our newsletter provider. The purpose is occasional news about the next Thursday Murder Club novel; the lawful basis is your consent. The separate checkbox starts unticked, and Buttondown sends a confirmation email before your subscription becomes active.

You can withdraw consent at any time using the unsubscribe link in each email or by contacting us. We do not sell the mailing list or use it for unrelated marketing. Subscriber details are kept while you wish to receive these updates; after unsubscribe, only the minimum records needed to honour your opt-out and document consent are retained. Buttondown also processes technical data needed to deliver and protect its service, as explained in its privacy policy. Its double opt-in documentation explains confirmation. The ICO’s email marketing guidance describes consent and opt-out rights.
