Thursday Murder Club books in order (US editions)

The same friends, the same cases and a few different edition details. This guide separates US releases from the UK dates shown elsewhere on the site.

US ebook and downloadable audio releases

Dates below apply to these formats. A paperback or tie-in can have a later date.

The US reading order

Read the five Thursday Murder Club novels in the sequence shown below. The murder cases change, but the relationships at Coopers Chase develop across the books, so publication order is the easiest path. US publication dates are not always the same as UK dates: The Impossible Fortune, for example, is listed by Penguin Random House US on 30 September 2025. The dates in the main table are verified US ebook and downloadable audiobook release dates. They are not dates for every paperback, tie-in or later reissue.

Pamela Dorman Books, Viking and Penguin Books

Pamela Dorman Books publishes Osman’s US fiction within Penguin Random House’s Viking publishing group. The UK editions discussed on our individual book pages use Viking. Subsequent US paperbacks and current ebook listings can carry Penguin Books, so an imprint on one format should not be applied automatically to every edition. PRH’s current first- and second-book ebook pages list Penguin Books; the third and fourth list Pamela Dorman Books. The recent Impossible Fortune hardcover is also listed under Pamela Dorman Books. Follow the format selector on the official page when checking a particular purchase.

US audiobooks: familiar voices

The principal narrator sequence matches the English-language UK recordings in our guide. Lesley Manville reads the first two club books, then Fiona Shaw reads books three, four and five. PRH’s Bullet That Missed audio page also credits Richard Osman and Steph McGovern; its product credit should not be read as a replacement for Shaw as the principal story narrator. Nicola Walker reads the two We Solve Murders novels. The downloadable audio dates are shown separately from print formats so listeners can check the recording they actually want.

Paperback and tie-in dates

A paperback release can come months after the original ebook and audio release. PRH lists the original first-book US paperback on 3 August 2021 and its Netflix tie-in paperback on 12 August 2025. Later club paperbacks are listed on 26 July 2022 for The Man Who Died Twice, 20 June 2023 for The Bullet That Missed, 13 August 2024 for The Last Devil to Die and 4 August 2026 for The Impossible Fortune. These are edition dates, not changes to story order. Choose the cover and format you prefer, then begin with book one.

We Solve Murders: the separate US shelf

We Solve Murders begins another series and does not require the Coopers Chase novels. Its US release is listed on 17 September 2024, followed by We Chase Shadows on 15 September 2026. The latter is five days after the UK hardback release. Both US downloadable recordings credit Nicola Walker. If you enjoy travel, private-security work and a smaller central team, begin with We Solve Murders; if you prefer the retirement-village ensemble, begin with The Thursday Murder Club. The two reading routes can be enjoyed independently.

Buying and borrowing the right edition

Use the official Penguin Random House links for current formats, edition identifiers and audio credits. Library catalogues may display a reissue date prominently, so compare the title, series position and format rather than assuming that the newest listing is a new novel. A Netflix tie-in is still the first Thursday Murder Club story. For translated editions, the international guide is the better place to compare language and narrators; for the next book, our single next-book hub distinguishes announced rights deals from a named UK publication date.
